Working while traveling can be quite difficult for a multitude of reasons, mostly due to the distractions a new location can bring to your attention. The lure of a new environment, culture, or city can easily deter you from productively completing assignments. You may also find yourself in less than comfortable working conditions which can lead to a lack of inspiration. Here are some suggestions to help you find a work / play balance while traveling.
- Try to find a Coworking facility that offers internet access, quiet space, storage lockers, and desk space for a reasonable price.
- If you cannot find a Coworking facility or if coworking is not an option, look for a library, coffee shop, or any other space in which you can focus.
- Create a list of priorities and establish time requirements and specific margins for each item on your list.
- Work sporadically throughout the day so that you have the opportunity to enjoy what your new environment has to offer at each point during the day. Intermittently working will help to inspire your work and increase your productivity.
Remember, productivity isn’t confined to four walls and 9-5. When traveling get out and experience what each location has to offer and use those experiences to fuel your motivation to get work done.
“Be stubborn about your goals but flexible about your methods.” - Jeff Sheehan
